Alliant Energy World Headquarters

Occupying one of the most prominent settings within the American Center, the four-story Alliant Energy Headquarters nestles into its gently sloping site and captures vistas both east and west. Parking is situated in a radial pattern that in turn creates graceful circulation about the site along curved landscaped roadways. This radial configuration creates more direct pedestrian routes to the buildings main entries via shaded walkways.

The buildings most prominent feature, the rotunda, acts to unify current and future office wings. Architecturally, the rotunda expresses its purpose as a public gathering place and acts to accommodate a sense of community within the Alliant organization.

Large conference rooms, training rooms and video conference rooms are provided in the rotunda space. Office wings are equipped with small conference rooms and "huddle rooms" in the core of an open office concept. A full service cafeteria and dining room are also included as part of the interior space.

The exterior primary wall material is a versatile precast panel, which incorporates brick units and intricate stone-like profiles and textures. Additionally, an energy efficient window system integrates an architectural metal gridwork.

The mechanical system incorporates an off-peak energy consuming ice-storage technology for cooling. The building incorporates several "green building" practices, including energy-efficient mechanical and lighting systems, building materials that are high in recycled content, building materials that are easily re-used or recyclable at the end of their useful life, "cool-daylighting" design techniques, and building commissioning practices.
