Based out of St. Louis, the Real Estate Intern is responsible for supporting commercial real estate development efforts, specifically senior housing developments, for all active Opus geographic markets. Specific duties include providing assistance with a variety of departmental activities, including market research, site selection review, design review, and development management.






  1. Gather, organize, analyze, and maintain senior housing market and industry data as directed.
  2. Recognize the competition, and identify their developments and associated market prices, amenity packages, healthcare components, and building specifications.
    1. Tour appropriate competitive properties, as directed.
    2. Gather and organize brochures, floor plans, pricing data, etc. for competitive projects.
    3. Research competing new construction and planned senior housing developments.
  3. Assist with site selection process, utilizing various analytical demographic and market tools to evaluate sites and sub-markets.
  4. Assist with the coordination and creation of commercial real estate products.
    1. Assist with gathering necessary background data/information on potential development opportunities, including:
      1. County plat maps
      2. Surveys
      3. City guide plans and zoning maps
      4. Property Identification Numbers
      5. Assessed valuations
      6. Aerial photographs
      7. Area demographics
    2. Assist with developing/coordinating necessary collateral material for development projects.
    3. Assist with coordinating and implementing grand opening events for development projects.
  5. Establish contact and regularly communicate with key real estate development employees and outside contacts.
    1. Attend appropriate internal meetings with real estate, design, construction, and administrative staff.
    2. Attend appropriate external meetings with brokers, developers, city personnel, etc.
  6. Perform special projects as assigned.



  • Student pursuing bachelor’s degree in real estate, business, finance, or a related field, with completion of at least two years of post-secondary education
  • Exposure to lending processes and institutions, the construction industry, and/or the brokerage community and how these groups relate to one another is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with statistics with an ability to use them to choose between alternatives
  • Ability to prioritize and organize time and responsibilities in order to fulfill primary goals and coordinate numerous details that accompany each project
  • Personal qualities of persistence, diplomacy, and initiative
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid computer skills
