The Opus Group (Opus) is pleased to announce the recent promotion of
Ben Angelo to vice president of real estate development. In this role, he will continue to lead and grow Opus' student living platform – an increasingly important and competitive sector. Rising college enrollment rates are driving the need for more development, and according to
Real Page, in 2019, 47,000 new student housing beds were projected to be delivered in the U.S. Opus has been developing student living since 2012 and has completed multiple projects across eight major universities.
“Since joining Opus in 2016, Ben has led our national student living efforts and has been instrumental in driving our growth and expansion in this evolving sector," said Mike Yungerman, senior vice president and general manager at Opus. “Ben's strong leadership has resulted in a consistent approach to student living developments for us and maximum value for campuses and neighboring communities."
Angelo has been responsible for leading a team that has built a pipeline of more than 4,000 beds. In recent years, he has been a key leader on notable projects, including Seven07, Ascend – Five Points South Student Living and Proxi – Lawrence Student Living.
Angelo leads all phases of the development process, including sourcing and pursuing prospective opportunities, building and fostering relationships with equity and property management partners and conducting financial analysis and development feasibility studies.
Angelo has nearly 15 years of commercial real estate experience developing urban areas with Class A mixed-use projects. Most of this time has been spent focused on the student housing sector.
Ben holds a master's degree of business administration in real estate finance and investments from DePaul University and a bachelor's degree in construction management from Purdue University. He is a member of the DePaul Real Estate Alumni Alliance, Purdue Alumni Association and the National Multifamily Housing Counsel.
