Completed in October 2013, the Chicago Tube & Iron Expansion in Eagan, Minn., allowed us to use our third-party construction expertise, collaborating directly with Chicago Tube & Iron executives. The collaboration was a success, and we recently received a letter of commendation from Bruce Torgerson, general manager – St. Paul division of Chicago Tube & Iron.
On behalf of everyone here at Chicago Tube & Iron, I would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation for a job well done on the remodel of our Eagan facility. As you remember, your marching orders were to take our 40-year-old building (which definitely looked its age) and transform it into a replica of our newly constructed plants in Chicago, Fond du Lac and Charlotte. By anyone’s standards, this was a tall order. Upon completion, the unanimous opinion is that you accomplished the goal to everyone’s satisfaction and amazement.
Chicago Tube and Iron celebrated its centennial last June and entered into a circle that only 1% of companies achieve. To make this even more remarkable, 2014 marked our 100th straight year of profitability! This was not accomplished by spending money frivolously and in keeping with this trend this project had a dead stop budget number. The Opus Design Build team enabled us to exceed expectations in all aspects of the project and also stay on budget. Our group was not experienced in this type of endeavor, but your team guided us through all phases from design to navigating the local authorities and on to construction meetings and keeping subcontractors on task. We learned a great deal and throughout the process trusted that the advice we received from the Opus team was sound and well thought out. No one ever complained as we pushed to do more with less and the results are stunning. I cannot tell you how many townspeople have complimented me on our new building. In an era when trust is at a premium, budgets are routinely exceeded and deadlines come and go, the Opus team provided us with a superior product on time, on budget and left us confident that all the work would be to our satisfaction or made right. You have stood by that promise, and we would recommend you and your team to any business or organization requiring design-build capabilities.
