Doug Swain, vice president and general manager of Opus Development Company, L.L.C., in Indianapolis, has been named to the NAIOP Research Foundation Board of Governors. Doug is the 51st governor to be named to the distinguished board, which is a lifetime appointment. He joins me as our second representative on the board.

The NAIOP Research Foundation is a leading think tank for the commercial real estate development industry. It conducts research to assess the trends, economic viability and needs of the built environment, providing vital information that commercial real estate professionals need to make informed decisions. In addition, the foundation provides educational programs and outreach opportunities that support current and future leaders as they address challenges facing the industry.

The NAIOP Research Foundation Board of Governors helps shape the foundation’s agenda by giving direction on research projects undertaken, sharing their expertise and time serving on committees and pledging financial support. Guided by a sense of purpose, ownership and trust, the board is made up of leaders in the commercial real estate industry, like Swain, who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the industry.

Doug Swain is no stranger to NAIOP and has earned his stripes as a governor. In 2008, he spearheaded the formation of the NAIOP Indiana chapter, where he assembled the local board and managed operations for the chapter. He also served two terms on the NAIOP National Board of Directors, on both a local and national level.

“I am honored to join the NAIOP Research Foundation’s Board of Governors,” said Doug. “As a representative of Opus, I look forward to collaborating with industry thought leaders who share a vested interest in addressing current opportunities and shaping the future of the industry.”

In his current role at Opus, Doug leads overall management of operations in Indianapolis, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. In addition to managing projects and pursuing real estate development, he plays an integral role defining and executing future growth plans for the region. Prior to joining Opus in 2013, Doug was senior director of Real Estate Solutions at DHL/Exel Supply Chain, preceded by roles of vice president of operations - Central Region, and regional director for First Industrial Realty Trust, Inc.

Doug's vast experience in commercial real estate and his commitment to NAIOP and the industry have contributed greatly to his appointment to the NAIOP Research Foundation Board of Governors. Since accepting the position, he also joined the NAIOP Research Foundation’s Distinguished Fellows Credentialing Committee, which reviews and evaluates all applications for the Distinguished Fellows program, engaging the nation’s foremost commercial real estate, economic and public policy experts. Swain holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Ohio State University.

Please join me in congratulating Doug.
