Leading By Example: Habitat for Humanity’s CEO Build

At Opus, we take great pride in our philanthropic efforts and make it a priority to give back to the communities where we live and work. I see this throughout the year with our United Way campaign, company-wide Founder’s Day, various volunteer efforts and The Opus Foundation® – which is why it is always rewarding when I can trade in my suit and tie for a hard hat and hammer and spend the day giving back.

This fall, I was able to do just that for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s 13th annual CEO Build Day. Joined by Tim Murnane, president and CEO of Opus Holding, L.L.C.; Ed Gschneidner, president of Opus AE Group, L.L.C.; and executives from more than two dozen other local companies, we spent a beautiful day building two homes in North Minneapolis. From painting the exterior to installing windows and building wrap, we enjoyed getting to know, or in some cases reconnecting, with each other as we worked on a shared mission.

It is always rewarding to spend time together on an effort we are so pleased to support and looking back at the day, Ed hit the nail on the head when he noted, “What always impresses me is the commitment to community that Twin Cities business and civic leaders have and demonstrate by coming out every year for Habitat.”

Overall we had an incredibly fulfilling day and truly appreciate the opportunity to not only give back to the community, but to lead by example. Recognizing that having a safe and stable place to live is an important part of creating successful communities, we look forward to continuing to partner with Habitat for Humanity for years to come.
