MINNEAPOLIS – The Opus Group (Opus) announced today a contract with Houston-based CenterPoint Energy to design and construct a new 64,000-square-foot industrial warehouse and office facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Construction began this week.

“We’re excited to work with CenterPoint Energy as they move forward with their strategic plan in Minnesota,” said Jessica Coyle, project manager, Opus Design Build, L.L.C. “Opus’ design-build approach and expertise in sustainable construction will help CenterPoint Energy realize success in their new space from day one and for years to come.”

The Golden Valley location will serve as home base for CenterPoint Energy employees previously housed in two aged and capacity-constrained facilities, creating a more centralized space. This new location will help CenterPoint Energy serve its customers more effectively and efficiently.

“CenterPoint Energy is looking forward to enhancing our operational efficiencies in our Golden Valley Service Center,” said Dave Long, facilities project manager for Gas Operations in Minnesota at CenterPoint Energy. “Our new facility will allow us to add value through superior customer service capabilities, new technologies and innovation.”

The new facility, located near the intersection of Douglas Drive North and Golden Valley Road, will include 43,400 square feet of warehouse space with 28-foot clear height, two stories of office space totaling 20,600 square feet as well as ample parking. The project will be designed to achieve LEED Silver certification with sustainable elements including water efficient plumbing fixtures, enhanced storm water retention and pretreatment measures, floor layout designed to maximize daylighting, and motion and daylight sensor lighting.

Opus Design Build, L.L.C. will serve as the project’s design-builder and Opus AE Group, L.L.C. will be the architect and structural engineer of record. Loucks Associates will serve as the civil engineer of record. Project completion is slated for February 2016.
