Opus’ Dan Young Dixon Named to First-Ever LEED Fellow Class

10/12/2011
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Opus Group™ is pleased to announce that the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has awarded Dan Young Dixon, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, director of architecture for Opus AE Group, Inc., the prestigious LEED Fellow designation. Young Dixon is one of 34 green building professionals from around the world to be named to the inaugural class of LEED Fellows.

“We are thrilled to bestow the LEED Fellow designation upon these highly accomplished individuals,” said Peter Templeton, president of GBCI. “The Fellows are some of the leading innovators and vanguards of the green building movement, and their bodies of work strongly underscore their commitment to LEED and a sustainable built environment.”

The LEED Fellow Program is GBCI’s new and most prestigious professional designation. It recognizes exceptional contributions to green building and significant professional achievement within the rapidly growing community of LEED professionals. This year’s class of LEED Fellows was selected through a peer nomination and portfolio review process. LEED Fellows must have 10 years of green building experience and hold a LEED AP with specialty credential.

“This distinction recognizes Dan’s career-long commitment to the environment and sustainable design,” said Ed Gschneidner, president of Opus AE Group. “Dan has tirelessly advocated for design solutions that lessen our industry’s negative impacts on the planet. His knowledge has been incorporated into LEED-certified and other projects we deliver clients. Above all, Dan’s work represents Opus’ collective conscience and company values – this recognition is well-deserved.”

Young Dixon’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and green building is woven into most of Opus’ 40 LEED projects. His portfolio of recent projects includes the University of St. Thomas Anderson Student Center in Saint Paul, Minn., the Marquette College of Engineering in Milwaukee, the Iowa National Guard Campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Excelsior Crossings in Hopkins, Minn., and the Crest Ridge Corporate Center in Minnetonka, Minn. He was recognized with his LEED Fellow classmates at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Toronto in October.
