Nearly two years ago, the Anderson Student Center on the University of St. Thomas's St. Paul campus opened its doors.
Quickly, the light filled, 45-foot-high atrium space became charmingly referred to as "the Living Room." The design team created the space focused on comfort and versatility, providing a welcoming and warm atmosphere. A mixture of sofas, collaboration spaces and laptop coffee tables offers flexibility and variety, providing the ideal see-and-be-seen space. Every time I've visited the Anderson Student Center I'm impressed with the energetic surroundings, activity and buzz around the Living Room; it's never empty.
The focal point in the space is the grand elliptical stair which carries you through the building, serving as a wonderful venue to stop for quick conversations while also providing a dramatic vista to the rest of the campus. The finishes in the Living Room provide an immediate draw with rich woods paneling the walls and ceiling, warm neutral tones and soft carpeted rug under foot. The Living Room emits a sense of familiarity that students and guests appreciate like the comforts of home. At Christmas, the University installs a beautiful, 30-foot tree that illuminates the interior and creates a warm glow through the expansive exterior glass.
