Office Building Successfully Houses Administration and Patient Services

With close proximity to Seattle University, Swedish Hospital Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center, the 401 Broadway Medical Office Building is a design-build development for King County, Wash. that houses Harborview clinics and healthcare administrative offices on its five floors.

Haborview, which is owned and operated by the University of Washington’s school of medicine, consists of medical facilities that are used for treatment, research and teaching. The Patricia Bracelin Steele building offers clinic and patient services, a family medicine clinic and mental health services.

The exterior features glass and red brick façade with precast concrete. The interior is secured with computer-controlled access. Additionally, the fire protection system is fully automated.

Partnering with the Community to Deliver Financing

Working directly with the county, outside attorneys, the prosecutors’ office, and representatives from the National Development Council, the Opus team helped arrange for municipal bond financing. Under this arrangement, King County’s only financial commitment was to lease the building upon satisfactory completion and the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.
