ViroMED, a privately-held, regional leader in the biological research and testing industry, was in need of a new, state-of-the-art facility. In partnership with the Cambridge, Mass.-based Symmes Maini & McKee Associates architecture firm, the Opus team provided design-build construction, project management and project architecture.
Located on a seven-acre site in the Opus 2 office and industrial park in Eden Prairie, Minn., ViroMED’s new building includes office space on the second floor, test lab space and warehouse and manufacturing space. Dealing with highly-infectious viruses, ViroMED needed proper lab space to work in. The new spaces feature air locked clean rooms to properly contain specimens.
“We came to Opus with a unique design, knowing their reputation for quality construction,” said Bonnie Baskin, president of ViroMED Laboratories, Inc. “We challenged that expertise with our need for budget options, highly technical facilities and functional space that allowed for expansion. Through a true ‘partnering’ with our designers, they were understanding and responsive in meeting every challenge. Opus definitely lived up to their reputation.”
With a unique European-style architectural vision, the collaboration was a success. The Opus team delivered ViroMED’s vision on time and on budget.
