News Space to Create Optimal Efficiency for CenterPoint Energy

In today’s fast moving service industry, superior customer service is paramount. To enable its employees to operate at the highest level of service, efficiency and innovation, Houston-based CenterPoint Energy enlisted Opus to design and construct a new industrial warehouse and office facility in Golden Valley, Minn.

As the future home of its operations in Minnesota, the new centralized space will free CenterPoint Energy from the limits of aging and capacity-constrained facilities. Once completed, the facility will bring together CenterPoint Energy employees and services previously scattered across the Minneapolis metro area.

With an eye toward operational efficiency, the 43,400-square-foot warehouse will feature 28-foot clear height. Complementing the industrial warehouse is a two-story office space, totaling 20,600 square feet, as well as ample parking. With the help of Opus’ collaborative design-build approach, the final industrial warehouse and office facility will create a highly-customized and functional building for CenterPoint Energy.

Focusing on effective and responsible business practices, the CenterPoint Energy Regional Operations Facility is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. Opus’ team of LEED accredited professionals brought an integrated approach to implementing green strategies, incorporating sustainable design features including:

  • water-efficient plumbing fixtures,
  • enhanced storm water retention and pretreatment measures,
  • floor layout designed to maximize daylighting and
  • motion and daylight sensor lighting.

These sustainable construction features, along with thoughtful industrial and office space design, highlight CenterPoint Energy’s commitment to long-term, strategic growth in Minnesota with a facility that supports that vision.
