Tim Murnane

Chief Executive Officer

Responsibilities

  • Leads and directs Opus, in partnership with Opus President, Matt Rauenhorst
  • Responsible for the vision and guidance of the collective operations of the organization, including oversight of subsidiary operating companies Opus Development Company, Opus Design Build and Opus AE Group

Experience

Tim is a leader, mentor, entrepreneur and real estate expert, who started his commercial real estate career in 1980. Tim joined Opus in 1984, and as a lead developer, he started up a new retail division for Opus and developed more than 30 million square feet of office, industrial and retail projects. His portfolio reflects some of Opus’ landmark projects, including but not limited to the 475-acre mixed-use Arbor Lakes development (Maple Grove, MN), and the 1.6 million-square-foot Best Buy Corporate Campus (Richfield, MN) and the 1.2 million-square-foot American Express Financial Advisors Headquarters (downtown Minneapolis, MN).

Tim was asked to take on the role of President & Chief Executive Officer of Opus in 2010, a role in which he led and drove the transformation of Opus, its business growth, performance and success, while preserving and positively impacting the best of the culture and core values. He can be credited with successfully reestablishing Opus following the Great Financial Crisis (GFC) and redefining the way it does business, including how projects are developed and financed, risk and control are managed and how talent is developed, empowered and collaborates across geographies and functions.

He’s been instrumental in guiding the future direction to ensure long-term success in its next generation and beyond. This has included ensuring Opus has the talent, bench strength and planful succession strategies to go the distance.

Tim’s leadership, performance and vast contributions at Opus have set a strong foundation upon which the team can build the next generation of growth. In May of 2025 Tim announced he will retire at the end of 2026; and as a result, in June of 2025 he evolved his role to Chief Executive Officer to support a strategic and planful transition to his successor.
