Greg Swanson Recognized as Rebuilding Together Shining Star

10/28/2019

Greg Swanson, Field Coordinator, was recognized last week by Rebuilding Together Twin Cities with their Shining Star volunteer award.

Greg has a deep commitment to using his specialized skills, including carpentry, supervision and an ability to connect with anyone, to give back to the community and support low-income homeowners and nonprofit organizations.

“Greg is a talented craftsman, who has contributed significantly to our efforts to give back to the community, especially to Rebuilding Together," said Jeff Walker, Director of Operations. “Greg is a reliable, caring and thoughtful team member, who is greatly deserving of the Shining Star Volunteer recognition."

Serving as a Founder's Day team lead, Greg can be counted on to conduct a site visit (if not multiple) prior to the day to analyze the project site. (In 2019, he visited the Every Third Saturday nonprofit facility two to three times to make sure everything was set for the day.) In doing so, Greg uses his expertise in construction to identify what needs to be done, how and in what order it will need to be done and what skills and equipment will be needed.

In the past Greg has identified needs at sites that won't be able to be accommodated during our one day volunteer event. But, he doesn't leave it at that. He has worked in his off hours in his own shop to design, cut and assemble cabinetry (Boy's & Girl's Club in 2016).

“I love working with Greg. He has a can-do attitude," said Tony Sjogren of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities. “He is a consummate professional and an outstanding craftsmen who we want on our jobs."
