Opus Meets Aggressive Timeline and Budget for Design-Build Facility
Business is strong at MC Machinery Systems Inc., a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation and seller of electrical discharge machines and lasers for cutting metal. As a result, the company’s workforce is expanding and on the brink of outgrowing their current facility in Wood Dale, Ill. With a progressive eye to the future, MC Machinery decided to invest in a facility designed and built to meet the specific needs of their business operations – so they turned to Opus.
Located in nearby Elk Grove Village, Ill., MC Machinery’s new home encompasses 175,000 square feet of space. In addition to 50,000 square feet of office space and 75,000 square feet of warehouse and storage areas, there is a large showroom and space for conducting product demonstrations for customers. There is also a room dedicated to creating parts from metal powders via specialized 3D machines, as well as spaces specifically tailored to accommodate customer product demonstrations, research and development, machine refurbishment and a call center for customer support. The larger space and customized design of the new facility allows the company to further expand its capabilities and service a diverse range of industries including automotive, aerospace, energy, medical, military/defense, agriculture and more.
Opus’ efficient design-build process and multiple skillsets made it possible to meet MC Machinery’s aggressive budget and condensed timeline. Construction began in April 2016, and MC Machinery was fully operational in the space by April 2017.
