Responsibilities

  • Leads the development in the greater Charlotte market and the broader Southeast region
  • Sources and pursues industrial and multifamily development opportunities and advances high-potential projects that align with regional demand, economic indicators and long-term organizational goals
  • Evaluates land selection and identifies the type of building best suited for the site, determines financial feasibility of proposed projects and obtains necessary jurisdictional approvals and/or variances
  • Works on a continuing basis with internal groups, including construction, architecture, legal, accounting and risk and property management groups and outside attorneys to ensure adherence to development plans in terms of project quality, schedule and cost
  • Analyzes requirements related to the real estate market, city or regional growth, transportation and development trends and local economic and business trends
  • Assists with the development of overall company and project business strategies and implements assigned strategies
  • Provides work direction to direct reports, motivating and supervising them by means of assisting and coaching, to promote their professional growth and performance
  • Promotes a culture that reflects our values, encourages good performance and rewards productivity
  • Monitors current trends related to our products and services to anticipate future trends that could impact our work

Experience

Kelly began his career in commercial real estate development in 1989. Before joining Opus in 2025, he developed over 11,000 multifamily units in the Southeast.

Kelly is an expert in urban planning, negotiations, project management and strategic investments.
