CHARLOTTE, NC – August 19, 2025 – Opus today announced that they have opened an office in Charlotte, North Carolina, and hired Kelly Dunbar as senior vice president of development to lead it.
Opus is an integrated group of commercial real estate development, design and construction companies with eight offices and thousands of projects completed across the country. Dunbar is a seasoned commercial real estate leader with 35 years of development experience in the Southeast, including the development of over 11,000 multifamily units. Most recently he founded the multifamily division of Charlotte-based Childress Klein, where he was managing partner, a role he held for 13 years.
In his new role, Dunbar leads Opus’ expansion into the greater Charlotte market and the broader Southeast region. He is responsible for establishing a strong local presence by sourcing and pursuing industrial and multifamily development opportunities and advancing high-potential projects that align with regional demand, economic indicators, and long-term organizational goals.
“We are excited to welcome Kelly to the Opus team and to formally announce our launch in the Charlotte market,” said Mike Yungerman, executive vice president and general manager of development with Opus. “The Southeastern United States has been a strategic focus for us due to its sustained growth and strong potential, particularly in the industrial and multifamily sectors. Kelly brings a thoughtful leadership style, deep industry experience and valuable regional relationships that make him the ideal person to lead this next phase of Opus’ expansion.”
“The appointment of Kelly Dunbar to lead our Charlotte office marks a significant and tangible milestone in Opus’ strategic growth plan,” said Matt Rauenhorst, president of Opus. “His leadership in this key market reinforces our commitment to geographic expansion and positions Opus to create value through local expertise and deep regional engagement.”

“Opus has an impeccable reputation for quality and integrity in major markets across the country, and I’m honored and extremely excited to spearhead their growth in the Southeast,” said Dunbar.
