Committed to Stewardship in Our Work

4/16/2018

At Opus, we define stewardship broadly by incorporating sustainability and philanthropy. To us, stewardship is acting responsibly with our resources and in our communities to help people improve the places where they live, work and play.

Stewardship is a pillar of our organization’s history and remains a core value today. Building and improving communities is what we do – both through what we do and how we do it.

Read on to learn more about our commitment to stewardship.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Environmentally responsible design begins with a passion and commitment to sustainability. Our team has 47 LEED accredited professionals in every discipline, resulting in an integrated, sensible approach where green strategies are ingrained in decision making.

The philosophy of sustainable design is ethically and morally aligned with our way of doing business. We want to positively impact our communities and make them better today and for future generations. We are committed to sustainable design as a best practice in every project we undertake.

Our team's portfolio includes 16 million square feet of green projects, including 46 LEED certified buildings—22 Gold, 14 Silver and 5 certified—totaling nearly 12 million square feet.

Building Community for a Better Tomorrow

Our philanthropy goal is to strengthen the communities where we live and work, through impactful grantmaking and volunteerism. Since 2000, the Opus Foundation® has awarded more than $37 million to projects and programs that build our communities and make them better places to live, work and raise families. The Opus Foundation is one of the largest corporate foundations in Minnesota, ranking above other foundations for organizations much larger than The Opus Group.

We don't just say we value community stewardship; we show it in many of our actions and priorities. Our initiatives have received important recognitions confirming the impact of our value, including the following:

  • Minnesota Business Magazine Community Impact Awards Best in Show (2018)
  • Minnesota Keystone Honored Company (2017)
  • Greater Twin Cities United Way Best in Show – small company (2017)
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City Club Champion award (2016)

In 2017 the Opus Foundation awarded $3,284,778, impacting 42 communities. We also held our most successful United Way campaign to date and associates volunteered nearly 1,885 hours making a difference in their communities.
