When identifying ways to advance economic development – particularly amid ongoing uncertainty – it’s natural to start with forecasts, interest rates and other economic indicators that shape market conditions. Those data points matter. But during a Greater Des Moines Partnership discussion for local economic development practitioners, Chris Trosper, Director of Real Estate Development, encouraged participants to pause and consider a different lever – one that remains within reach regardless of broader economic forces.

That shift, he noted, starts not with external variables but with how communities and partners choose to work together.

“Focus on what you can control,” said Chris. “Consider your mindset and behaviors. Especially in today’s environment, there’s real value in working together as one team –finding ways to move deals forward and keep plans progressing. When we approach opportunities with a shared commitment to collaboration and momentum, everyone benefits.”

The Greater Des Moines Partnership is the largest regional business, economic development and talent development organization in Iowa.
