Brittany Rihanek: Passionate Storyteller & Champion for Equity & Inclusion

“At Opus, our associates are the differentiator," said Brittany Rihanek. “We have creative and collaborative people here who continually deliver exceptional value to our clients, partners and community."

For more than a decade, Brittany has interacted with dozens of our associates from across the country on a daily basis. She researches and shares their stories – both internally and externally – as part of her role in the Marketing & Brand department.

Brittany is Senior Manager of Content Marketing. Responsible for executing content strategy across all business communication channels, she is a key contributor to advancing our brand and supporting marketing and business growth strategies.

“Brittany is an exceptionally talented writer whose mark can be found on countless communications put forth by Opus," said Kristin Weise, Director of Marketing Operations. “She's a skilled storyteller who approaches her work strategically, thoughtfully curating, planning and managing content that accurately reflects our brand."

In addition to managing content on our website, e-mail campaigns, social channels and more, she supports special projects and communications for various enterprise-wide initiatives.

Brittany is also deeply passionate about advocating for underrepresented people. In addition to ensuring our culture of equity and inclusion is reflected in the content she manages, she is active in our diversity, equity and inclusion work as the leader of our Education and Culture Building focus area and as a DEI Champion.

“It's exciting to be doing the additional work that's making our culture more welcoming, inclusive and equitable," Brittany said. “Our leaders and associates at Opus are committed to maintaining and reinforcing this culture, and we have a wonderful opportunity to continue elevating it on a solid foundation going forward."

Hard Work and Determination

Brittany grew up on a family farm in eastern South Dakota.

“My dad was a farmer, and my mom was a registered nurse," Brittany said. “Together, they taught me about the importance of hard work and determination. When my I was in pre-school, my mom went back to school to become a registered nurse – with three young kids at home. I was in awe of that as a kid; now as a mom, I'm even more impressed."

Growing up, Brittany wasn't exposed to anyone who worked in a professional office setting.

“I definitely didn't know what marketing was," she said. “But when I was little and learned to read and write, I loved it. And while in high school, I became more curious about how people think and make decisions."

Those interests led Brittany to explore a variety of programs and majors in college, including journalism, psychology, English, history, photography and business. She ultimately chose a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with specializations in marketing and management. Before graduating from Black Hills State University in 2008, she accepted a position as Marketing Specialist at Security First Bank in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she worked for five years before coming to Opus.

Beyond Marketing

Brittany is an expert communicator whose words can be seen and read just about everywhere at Opus.

“Her knack for content and commitment to excellence in her work have played a key role in continuing to build the Opus brand," said Kim Noonan, Chief Brand Experience Officer. “I appreciate her ability to maximize our return on investment for content creation by analyzing results and leveraging content across our various channels. Her impact, however, stretches beyond doing her job well. She generously volunteers her time and talents to support others, advancing change within the industry and our communities."

Brittany has clocked many hours supporting Minnesota Commercial Real Estate Women (MNCREW), an organization that advances women in commercial real estate through networking and events, leadership development, career outreach, and industry research. She has held leadership positions, co-chaired several committees, and was honored with MNCREW's Volunteer of the Year Award in 2019.

She's also on the planning committee and an integral member of the Opus Women Network (OWN), a resource group that empowers and fosters the development of women at Opus through professional development, stewardship, networking and advocacy.

In her free time, Brittany personally supports nonprofit organizations by serving in leadership roles and volunteering her time and talents.

She's passionate about hunger relief and serves on the board of directors of her local food shelf. Brittany has volunteered in various capacities at the nonprofit since 2020, including three board committees.

Brittany enjoys family time with her husband and two children. Whenever possible, they embrace the outdoors and go boating, hiking, camping and fishing. When she has time to herself, Brittany likes to – you guessed it – read and write. She also practices yoga and enjoys watching reality TV and sitcoms. “I'm sort of a pop culture nerd," she said with a smile.
