Opus’ Collaborative Design-Build Model Delivers for Twin Cities Healthcare Client

When a healthcare system needed a pediatric specialty and rehab clinic in a suburb of Minnesota’s Twin Cities, they enlisted Opus to provide design-build construction services based on their collaborative and open approach and expertise in healthcare and design-build construction.

The new clinic tenant improvement in an existing, one-story shell building includes six pediatric specialties; exam, consultation rooms and procedure rooms and a pediatric rehabilitation and physical therapy room. The therapy room includes a custom-designed zip line and ramp system with wall-mounted mats for children’s safety. Additionally, the team incorporated an inclusive countertop and sink system in the soiled utility room for infection control.

As with the trend in office spaces, many healthcare facilities are decreasing the number of private offices to create efficiencies and maximize patient care space. In this facility, Opus created one open collaborative space for staff and one private office that will mostly be used by the clinic administrator but is available for any staff who need to hold a private meeting.

Additionally, within this space, Opus’ self-performed work laborers used a brand-new, Hilti battery-operated fastening tool. A significant innovation with a large impact, this tool is safer, quieter, more labor efficient and creates less vibration – all ideal when working in an already occupied space, especially a healthcare space.

The clinic was completed in August 2016.
